Ways To Learn Spanish

Am I learning the correct version of Spanish for my school?

jctrumannar asked:

I am using Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish 1. My school teaches it, but I want to try Rosetta Stone. At school, they teach Latin American Spanish (I think). I have the Rosetta Stone Spanish Latin American language, but it seems to differ from what they teach at school. Am I using the right one?

For example, at school they are learning how to say simple things such as El Chica, but on Rosetta Stone, it teaches things such as Una Mujer and Un Nino. (I don’t know how to do accents on the computer, sorry). Are these things both for latin american spanish? I just am wondering if I’m wasting my time with Rosetta Stone.

Thanks!

How to help daughter overcome frustration learning Spanish?

 Powered by Max Banner Ads
asked:

My daughter, who is seven, has been wanting to learn Spanish. I am trying to learn as well, and have put forth a lot of effort trying to find ways to make learning fun for both of us. She seemed to be doing o.k. at first, and loved practicing…but now she is becoming really frustrated because of pronunciation problems (can’t roll her “rr’s” and has trouble trying to sing and read the cd/booklet combo she has). She’s throwing tantrums almost to the point of tears and calling herself stupid. I have to admit, I’m growing pretty frustrated myself to watch her go through this because she’s like me…she refuses to give in to frustration. The problem is, she’s no longer learning because it’s no longer fun for her which is frustrating her more. But, if I suggest that she takes a break and does something to take her mind off Spanish, she makes comments like “See? You think I’m stupid, don’t you!?” It’s VERY stressful because she’s far from stupid. She’s at the top of her class in reading, math, and almost everything else…but I can’t seem to convince her that her brain just needs a break.

Does anyone have any ideas for ways to distract her? I’ve even tried getting her to go outside and play, spend time with the horses or dogs (her favorite pasttime)…anything…she refuses. How can I either get her to do something else for a while…or how can I make learning fun again? She has videos and cd’s with music (she’s fairly musical, and loves singing and dancing), but those aren’t working anymore.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance if you can offer some helpful tips!

Shouldn’t people of other countries be learning Spanish instead of English?

Carrie Sutherland asked:

A lot of Europeans that don’t live in the UK are learning or know the English language very well. I believe I’ve read somewhere that it’s around 33% in the EU. Many Chinese learn English, Japanese, Koreans, etc. They mainly do this so they can be better informed on what’s going on in the USA and since the USA is such a powerful country English has caught on as a world default language. The thing is, why English? Shouldn’t everyone be learning Spanish? Every year at least 1,000,000 Spanish-speaking individuals come to the US. There are 45.5 million Hispanics in the US and 84% of them speak Spanish, and 50% of them prefer Spanish over English. The Hispanic population doubles approximately every 20 years. (at 3.3% per annum) As you read this, about a quarter to one-third of births in the US are to hispanics. Not only is the Spanish language spreading, but Hispanic cultural norms are rapidly spreading to, not just in the southwest. By 2050, 30% of the American population will be Hispanic and 40% or less will be Caucasian, and by then a good portion of the Caucasian population will be elderly, due to smaller youth generations. But in 2050 the Hispanic population will still be relatively youthful.
