Learning Spanish (in the long term)?

I just begun Spanish II (at the college level in the US). I am really interested in learning the language fluently one day. I got through Span I with the note card method. I am just a little worried that this method will not help me commit the harder concepts to memory this semester. I just spent a month off (for winter break) and I already came back rusty.

Any tips to help me keep the words in my brain, hopefully for good?
Also, tips for studying at a higher level? (do flashcards work for this?)
I am a visual/kinesthetic learner.

It’s best to always practice just so you won’t lose touch of it. I took spanish last year and b/c i didn’t practice it a lot and found it very difficult i basically forgot almost everything i learned last year lol. but now i’m taking it again and understanding it much better =)

I am also in a spanish class. My teacher makes us talk alot. Well, one day a student meant to say, ” I like your orange socks”, but he actually said ” I like your orange underwear”. Now I always remember that canciones is underwear. You could also play I Spy.

for joannerozanner… it’s not “canciones” it’s CALZONES… jaja xD… canciones.. are SONGS…. i was born in U.S.A but now i live in Ecuador.. i know a lot of english but more than that i know Spanish…. for me it’s easier… look…
i have met ppl that come from USA and are 0 in spanish and in 3 months they speak almost perfect the only difficult thing is the pronunciation.. for everybody thats the hard part in any language..
