I’m in a Spanish class, but can hardly remember anything. I know the basics (greetings, salutations, and about 10 words but thats it). Is there any tips/tricks that anyone knows? Or even any good websites that can help me learn better. Thanks!

  • It takes about twenty times of seeing/hearing/speaking a word in context to remember it. So just keep practising and working. Write lists, label things, talk to native speakers (they’ll LOVE IT! Latinos are so helpful when speaking Spanish…they’ll help you correct your accent, your verbage, whatever…and they do it with a smile of friendship). Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Everyone does. But don’t make the mistake that I did. I had a guy ask me how to say “I’m embarassed” (he was setting me up) and I said “uhh…I dunno…estoy embarazada?” He laughed and told me I just said “I’m pregnant”. (The right way to say that is “estoy avergonzada(o)”.)

    Buena suerte!

  • Find someone who is fluent and talk to them (in Spanish of course) regualarly or get some of those cds. If you get the cds you can put them on you mp3 player and listen to them while you walk or what have you.

  • the most basic technique in learning any languages is 1. of course you have to speak it, add some of the words in your everyday coversation. 2. Listen to latin music, i learn mandarin, cantonese lil bit of spanish from that. At least you get the pronounciation right, better than figuring it out from books. 3. Can get access to those latin soap drama with subtitles? get it and watch it, try to spot how much you can grasp what they are talking. Just my way of learning, goodluck.

  • I’d definitely recommend buying Spanish learning CDs to listen to at home and in your car. Also buy a Spanish/Engish Dictionary, and a Spanish “Phrase of the Day” calendar. You can get all these things from places like Barnes & Noble, and Borders Bookstore.

  • It could be helpfull if you do the same thing I did when I was learning english: talk to people who speak spanish, chat on internet, listen to spanish music (not Shakira ‘cuz she speaks really fast), latin people will help you, that’s for sure!

  • Everytime you remember new words write them on small pieces of papaer and carry these pieces of paper with you everywhere you go and when you don’t have anything to do take time to memorize these words. that’s what I do to memorize Japanese words and it really helps.

    good luck.
