- Kansieo.com on Hi All, My son has a new daycare teacher (its a home daycare) that speaks mainly spanish. She has been teaching my son spanish words. I know that this will be good for him in the long run, but I would rather him wait another year or 2 before he is taught spanish. We speak english only in our house. I just feel like because he is still learning to speak english, the spanish learning should wait. Am I being paranoid? I just don’t want him coming home and pointing at something, and saying what it is in spanish, but not knowing what it is in English. Is it too early for him?

no, we don’t have to. you don’t have to know their language to communicate with another human being (which is why it’s a great feeling to do it in another country. i will never forget Denmark)
i think they should since a lot of spanish people are now leaving there and its becoming bilingual..
like walmart..
they always have stuff in english and then on the other side is spanish..

Regardless of the increasing number of hispanic people in the U.S. territory I believe that Americans should definitely promote the learning of another language just as it is done in most other middle-high income countries.
Normally an American wouldn’t *have had the need* to learn another language because the job market didn’t seem to require it, but within this “global” context we are living nowadays it would be recommendable to be able to communicate in more than one language.
No. I am 16 years old. I was born and raised in North Carolina. I am Caucasian and nobody in my family knows Spanish. I began taking Spanish classes in middle and high school. I, all of a sudden, in the tenth grade, became extremely motivated to become 100% fluent in the language. That was less than one year ago and I am now very close to being fluent. I speak with my Colombian friend in Spanish and I am now very good at reading, speaking, listening, and writing in Spanish. It is not difficult if you are motivated to do it. Now, does that mean i think all Americans should? No. Of course not. Learning a second language is not for everyone and that’s fine. Nobody should ever feel obligated to do so. But if somebody should want to, I say definitely!
