Do you think that someone can succeed learning a language such as Spanish, alone?
Mary asked:
Because I am,trying to learn Spanish alone(Castillian Spanish).Maybe,I won’t have ‘perfect’ Spanish but it’s better than knowing nothing,no?;-)

My answer to your question is a resounding NO – never.
I have a friend that studied spanish for 4 yrs in High School and then majored in spanish in college. He then walked into Mexico at Cuidad Juarez (across from El Paso Texas) and was stunned. He could barely understand anything. He could talk using his studies but couldn’t understand but very little.
That’s how it really is and I think the same about any language. I’ve finally mastered spanish but not without living in Mexico for 11 years. It’s not easy to REALLY learn another language and don’t let anyone ever tell you it is.
I guess, if you just want to say a few things or get past a test then studying alone can suffice but that’s not what you asked. You asked if you could learn spanish alone and the answer is absolutely not.
